“ACT Skills for College Students” is a practical, evidence-based training designed to improve college student mental health through Acceptance and Commitment Therapy strategies. This
course teaches effective coping skills for anxiety in college, stress management for students, and tools for overcoming academic burnout and procrastination. Participants will learn how to
help clients manage test anxiety, social anxiety in college, and perfectionism while building emotional resilience and psychological flexibility. Through experiential exercises and values
based action planning, participating clinicians will strengthen their ACT-informed assessment and intervention skills, deepen their ability to conceptualize common college mental health
concerns through a psychological flexibility framework, and build practical tools to enhance student mental wellness on campus.
This training is ideal for mental health professionals and student interns seeking to build confidence in supporting college students.
Participants will identify and describe the six core processes of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and explain how psychological flexibility supports college student mental health.
Participants will apply ACT skills to common college stressors by demonstrating values clarification, cognitive diffusion, and present moment awareness strategies.
Participants will analyze patterns of experiential avoidance in academic and social settings and develop a personalized action plan aligned with their values.
Participants will differentiate between thoughts, emotions, and values, and formulate values-based goals that increase resilience and engagement in college life.
