This CE training teaches therapists how to use Acceptance and Commitment Therapy for career transitions, helping clients move through uncertainty with intention.

Participants will learn evidence based ACT interventions for career change, including values clarification, defusion from self doubt, and reducing career decision anxiety.

Therapists will receive practical strategies for strengthening their career counseling skills to help clients better align with meaningful work, navigate burnout and career dissatisfaction, and take committed action despite fear.

This course is ideal for therapists working with adults who identify as high-achievers experiencing career change stress, identity shifts, or loss of direction, as well as individuals defining the early stages of their career.

This training is ideal for mental health professionals and student interns seeking to build confidence in supporting people navigating career changes.

Learning Objectives

  • Analyze common psychological barriers in career transitions, including experiential avoidance, fusion, and values disconnection, as well as evaluate practical or external constraints in terms of values-based decision-making.

  • Evaluate client readiness for career transition and design individualized ACT-based interventions that increase psychological flexibility and reduce avoidance-based decision making.

  • Assist clients in identifying their sense of identity and purpose amidst a career transition, using ACT concepts like functional contextualism.

  • Apply core Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) processes to help clients identify values, formulate direction, and demonstrate committed action in the context of career change.
